Sofia Preventive Maintenance Service

The Preventive Maintenance service allows you to monitor and intervene in advance when there are signs of slowdowns or potential difficulties in using Sofia.

The Preventive Maintenance service is one of the most interesting and up-to-date services among Sofia Application and Infrastructure Services.

In this interview, we asked Gianfranco Pilia, Director, IT & Application Managed Services at SimCorp Italiana, to tell us how the service works, what objectives the service aims to achieve, and what benefits the customer can obtain.

Q: How did the need to set up a Preventive Maintenance service for Sofia arise?
A: The need for a preventive maintenance service arose in the context of increasing complexity of the processes managed through Sofia, where it is increasingly important to detect signs of potential problems early on, before they can negatively impact system performance. The Preventive Maintenance service is an integral part of SimCorp's SaaS offering and can be added to Application Management services for on-premises customers.

Q: What does the service cover?
A: The Preventive Maintenance service includes several key activities, such as managing Sofia logs and files, cleaning of the database according to agreed archiving policies, and monitoring system performance. The ultimate goal is to enable the customer to respond promptly to the continuous evolution of the system and the natural growth of the database.
Database historization and portfolio archive rebalancing activities can be added as extraordinary project activities on the Sofia DB to further optimize performance.

Q: What do you hope to achieve with this service? What are the main objectives?
A: The main objective is to prevent performance degradation by simplifying system operations; an additional positive side effect is the reduction of storage costs.

"We want to ensure that Sofia continues to function optimally, even in increasingly complex contexts."

Q: How is the service delivered?
A: SimCorp and the customer jointly define the retention policy for Sofia’s archives, log files, and files related to interface processes. Based on these guidelines, SimCorp configures database cleaning routines and monitors system performance, publishing periodic reports on the results of these checks. This proactive approach allows us to identify and resolve any issues before they can have a significant impact.

Q: What are the benefits for the customer?
A: The benefits primarily concern improved operational performance, but also economic savings through optimization and a reduction in the rate of storage growth. To sum up, with the Preventive Maintenance service, the customer is guaranteed more efficient and reliable operation of Sofia.
